What is a doula?​

A doula is a trained birth professional whose job is to “mother the mother” and advocate for parents during delivery. She provides education, resources, and guidance for parents to enable them to navigate pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum with confidence about their decisions. While a medical provider is there to keep you safe, a doula is there to make sure you are “ok” and feel cared for.

How is a doula different from a mid-wife?​

A doula isn’t medically trained and provides educational and emotional and physical support prenatally, during labor and delivery, and during the postpartum period. A midwife is a trained medical professional who offers medical care and can deliver babies.

 

Where do you attend births?​

I attend all types of births! The majority of births I attend are in the hospital, simply because many parents need an advocate and guide to maneuver the medical system. However, I also attend birth center and home births, and love witnessing strong mothers in any environment.

What type of births do you attend?

​

I support all births, regardless of your goals and birth plan. Some think that doulas are only for people who want a low-intervention, unmedicated birth. But in all honesty, birth is hard- no matter how you do it. Mothers who chose to have an epidural or who deliver via caesarean section need just as much support and care, and clients who have had these births report that doula support made them much more positive, validating experiences.

How many clients do you take a month?​

To ensure that my clients get the best attention and care, I only take two clients a month.
